Youth Activities and Engagement

Discover is a program that works with Lawrence elementary and high schoolers to promote education and learning initiatives in and out of the classroom. Volunteers visit elementary school classrooms to promote different themes to the students in a fun, active, and educational way. Example themes include lessons on teamwork, nutrition, and environmental awareness.

Discover also facilitates one-on-one tutoring for middle and high schoolers in the Lawrence community, matching them with KU students with experience in the subject they need assistance with. Another Discover tutoring opportunity is at O’Connell Youth Ranch, which is an organization that prepares boys for foster care, adoption, or reintegration back with their families after foster care or juvenile incarceration.
